Works with Macbook Pro 2019 + Samsung 980 ProSpeed test with black magic and fio are comparable to the advertised speeds. Also works with SMART.It doesn't get detected as a USB device but as /dev/disk* so it can't be attached as a USB to a VM on Fusion. The case gets a bit hot, so handle by the USB cable. Also the price is a bit high, otherwise good overall.Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][15.0%][w=2690MiB/s][w=2690 IOPS][eta 00m:17s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][21.1%][w=2678MiB/s][w=2677 IOPS][eta 00m:15s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][31.6%][w=2536MiB/s][w=2536 IOPS][eta 00m:13s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][42.1%][w=2632MiB/s][w=2632 IOPS][eta 00m:11s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][52.6%][w=2602MiB/s][w=2602 IOPS][eta 00m:09s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][63.2%][w=2642MiB/s][w=2641 IOPS][eta 00m:07s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][68.4%][w=2544MiB/s][w=2544 IOPS][eta 00m:06s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][78.9%][w=2569MiB/s][w=2569 IOPS][eta 00m:04s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [W(1)][89.5%][w=2517MiB/s][w=2517 IOPS][eta 00m:02s]sh-3.2# (f=1): [W(1)][100.0%][w=2598MiB/s][w=2598 IOPS][eta 00m:00s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][14.3%][r=2482MiB/s][r=2482 IOPS][eta 00m:18s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][27.3%][r=2474MiB/s][r=2474 IOPS][eta 00m:16s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][35.0%][r=2440MiB/s][r=2440 IOPS][eta 00m:13s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][42.9%][r=2523MiB/s][r=2522 IOPS][eta 00m:12s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][47.6%][r=2485MiB/s][r=2484 IOPS][eta 00m:11s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][57.1%][r=2490MiB/s][r=2489 IOPS][eta 00m:09s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][61.9%][r=2464MiB/s][r=2463 IOPS][eta 00m:08s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][71.4%][r=2479MiB/s][r=2479 IOPS][eta 00m:06s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][80.0%][r=2492MiB/s][r=2492 IOPS][eta 00m:04s]Jobs: 1 (f=1): [R(1)][90.0%][r=2428MiB/s][r=2428 IOPS][eta 00m:02s]sh-3.2# (f=1): [R(1)][100.0%][r=2400MiB/s][r=2400 IOPS][eta 00m:00s]smartctl 7.3 2022-02-28 r5338 [Darwin 21.5.0 x86_64] (local build)Copyright (C) 2002-22, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===Model Number: Samsung SSD 980 PRO 2TBSerial Number: S6B0NL0T519064AFirmware Version: 5B2QGXA7PCI Vendor/Subsystem ID: 0x144dIEEE OUI Identifier: 0x002538Total NVM Capacity: 2,000,398,934,016 [2.00 TB]Unallocated NVM Capacity: 0Controller ID: 6NVMe Version: 1.3Number of Namespaces: 1Local Time is: Fri Jul 8 00:51:20 2022 PDTFirmware Updates (0x16): 3 Slots, no Reset requiredOptional Admin Commands (0x0017): Security Format Frmw_DL Self_TestOptional NVM Commands (0x0057): Comp Wr_Unc DS_Mngmt Sav/Sel_Feat TimestmpLog Page Attributes (0x0f): S/H_per_NS Cmd_Eff_Lg Ext_Get_Lg Telmtry_LgMaximum Data Transfer Size: 128 PagesWarning Comp. The first time, it failed to work on my laptop and I returned it (as DOA) and purchased another. I later discovered that I needed a device for my desktop and decided to reorder it. The second still doesn't work on my laptop, but it is functional on my desktop. So, I guess it draws too much power to be powered by my laptop's TB3 port.My Testing Platforms • New High-End Laptop: HP Spectre x360 15t, Windows 11, 10th Gen i7, TB3 (4 lanes) • New Desktop: Intel Nuc 10i7FNH, Windows 11th Gen i7, TB3 (4 lanes) • mulltiple NVMe drives, some of the newest & fastest of the last few years, including -4TB Seagate Firecuda -4TB Sabrent Rocket -2TB Corsair MP510 -1TB Samsung 960 EVO (Read tests done on empty Drives)The Good• Good tool-free design- relatively easy to install drive.• Stable Thunderbolt connections (which was not the case with many of their competitors TB3 cases)• Sleek looking compact design, solid steel boxThe 'meh'• SSD Read Speeds: when reading a 1 TB file, using a TB3 connection, I averaged 1.2 GB/s (10Gbps), with sustained peaks of 1.8 GB/s (15Gbps).. The drives were rated for at least 2 times that read speed. This is a bit faster than the 10Gbps alternatives, though nowhere as fast as the advertised (40Gbps).• The enclosure is twice as wide as it needs to be. While some might appreciate the larger heat sink, I cool my devices with a fan, and prefer a slimmer, more portable design• the Customer service reached out to me within 24 hours of writing my first review, so responsive! However, their responses to my emails were at times dismissive, at times useless. Too bad, since I'm identifying potentially major problems with their device or their advertising... I'm not getting paid to help them test their products, but maybe I should be. Oh well, another product which will fail because they can't recognize the problems when they are pointed out to them. The Bad• No warning that enclosure's excessive power draw. This enclosure draws more Power than my laptop could provide, so useless for my laptop whcich could not even recognize it. This enclosure works fine when it is plugged into my desktop or into my laptop via a TB3 hub which provides 15W power per TB3 port. The Amazon listing should warn laptop buyers.• SSD Write Speeds: when writing a 1 TB file to the internal NVMe slot using a TB3 connection, limited to 10Gbps and out-performed by all of my USB 3.2 10Gbps devices. The fastest sequential write speeds were 750 MB/s (6 Gbps), with peaks up to 850MB/s (7Gbps). These drives are rated 3-5 times that speed. The average write speed on my HP Laptop was about 500MB/s (=4 Gbps).• Way too expensive ($180), especially given the competition.I've got a Sabrent 4TB Rocket 4 Plus SSD in this thing and I'm getting ~1600 mb/s write and ~2600 mb/s read. I think technically I should be getting higher write speeds but seeing has the market is limited for enclosures like this that can accept 4TB SSD's, I'm not really complaining.Easy to set up, robust enclosure material, and solid cooling efficiency. I bought a USB4 cable from Cable Matters as I didn't want to mess with the cables that it ships with. It's been a month or two and so far so good, however there was 1 instance of a random disconnect for this particular drive. I can't say if it was a software or hardware issue specific to the enclosure so I won't take anything away from the product but I figure I'd mention it!Edit 6/29/22The drive disconnects if the thunderbolt logo on cable is facing down.Could not get it to work on Raspberry PI 4B. Worked perfect on Windows.Good performanceInstead of buying a thunderbolt drive, i used this and an ssd.NAI have never used one of these before. This thing did what I needed it to do. You don't need tools to use it at all. In place of the screws that normally hold an NVMe drive in place are rubber flanges that you can bend out of the way. These work well and there's an extra one in the package. My only real gripe is it doesn't close securely enough and it's way too easy to slide open. Every single time I'm holding it to get the cable in it slides open and the differential force on the two halves of the enclosure is low. I have to consciously apply force as if I'm trying to close it to prevent this. I'm going to end up taping it shut which will be its own kind of nuisance.English version follows============================================================Lorsque j'ai acheté le Ankmax UC31M2 (USB C à NVMe SATA), je ne m'attendais pas à la qualité du produit que j'ai reçu. Ce n'est pas négligeable et cela prouve que celle-ci se porte garant de son produit.========================================================================================When I bought the Ankmax UC31M2 (USB C to NVMe SATA), I was not expecting the quality of product that I recieved. Yes it is a bit more expensive that other similar products but it distinguishes itself in a lot of things.Just to name a few:Most of the similar products support only one key ID ie: NVMe B key. This one support all the key ID's ie: M and M+B. It is difficult to find a product that offers that flexibility. It is more resistent and heat dissipating than other products since it is made of alluminium instead of plastic. It is therefore easier to carry around and more secure for the NVMe drive inside. The quality of the materials and of the manufacturing is undeniable. Most of all it does the job flawlessly. Even in Thunderbolt mode, it lets the NVMe inside work to it's full potential.Futhermore it is also elegant looking. Most importantly the future will tell if it will last years and years but everything points to it.The product has a 2 year warranty since the company offers a one year extended warranty when you register the product. That is more than most of the similar products around and it proves that they stand by their product.=====================================================================================My second purchase of the same product attesting to its quality. I prefer it over other NVMe enclosures even though its pricier. All other review points mentioned for the first purchase still hold. I give it five stars though as I have had no problems operationally with the first. It works as described. Very handy to move data using M.2 SSDs between computers. Good design and build. Plug and play for various sizes of the SSDs. Forced to buy a USB Type C female to USB Type A male adapter. as additional USB Type C to USB Type A cable not provided. Yes, this product is definitely five star material.Excellent HW addition to my USB4 M1 MacMini, the installation and performance of the SSD enclosure are, respectively: Easy and Superb. The Black Magic performance of the enclosure installed Corsair MP510 1TB SSD is shown.
